Power supply plans

GOOD news for homes in Dreketi, Macuata that were missed out during the implementation of the Seaqaqa-Dreketi power grid in 2014 as work is expected to be completed this year.

Fiji Electricity Authority CEO Hasmukh Patel said the Dreketi Rural Electrification scheme would cover Naibulu settlement, Basikalave settlement, Vunicagi, Balabala settlement, Malawai settlement and Nadakeke settlement.

Mr Patel said the scheme was at various stages, including the tendering process, sorting out of contractual agreements with powerline contractors and material transportation to Dreketi.

"These schemes will be completed in 2018," he assured members of the public in Dreketi.

In January last year, Mr Patel assured residents FEA was working round-the-clock to connect electricity to homes in the area.

Mr Patel had said they revisited residents that missed out in the initial survey.

He had said it was unfortunate that some customers were missed during the initial survey of the scheme.

He also said the Department of Energy and FEA were working together to ensure that all residents had access to power supply.

Resident Losana Lomani claimed four more homes in her area were promised power supply before the general election.

Another resident, Shiu Raj, claimed they were promised power before the end of last year.

Ms Lomani and Mr Raj said to date, they were still awaiting their electricity supply.
