Maritime caution

POLICE have issued a warning against maritime travel as Tropical Cyclone Gita is expected to affect maritime islands in the Lau Group, including Kadavu and Lomaiviti.

Police chief operations officer ACP Maretino Qiolevu said officers based at the Lakeba Police Station continued to liaise with villages that lie on the cyclone's projected path which was the upper Southern Lau.

"Communication between officers and turaga-ni-koro of islands in the Lau Group is being conducted on a regular basis and so far, there has been nil reports received at the Lakeba Police Station," ACP Qiolevu said.

ACP Qiolevu said with schools closed in Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu, parents and guardians were advised to keep a lookout for their children at all times.

"We continue to urge members of the public to listen closely to the advisories and ensure all necessary safety measures are adopted," ACP Qiolevu said.
