TC Gita: At its closest now

Update: 3:29PM JUST after 2pm today, Severe Tropical Cyclone Gita was located just parallel to Ono-i-Lau travelling at 25km per hour.

In its 2.57pm update, the Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC) in Nadi placed STC Gita at near 21.2S 178.9W, which is a mere 60km South-southwest of Ono-i-Lau and 390km of Kadavu.

According to the RSMC, close to its centre, the cyclone has average winds of up to 195km/hour with momentary gusts to 275km per hour which keeps it at category 4.

In its current path, STC Gita should be 250km West- southwest of Ono-i-Lau or 250km South-southwest of Kadavu at 2am Wednesday February 14.

By 2pm, the RSMC estimates that STC Gita will be about 280km South-southwest of Kadavu or 430km West of Ono-i-Lau.
