FIJI Bitter Marist 7s sponsors, Paradise Beverages launched a new Fiji Bitter Marist can with a new alcohol percentage to honour the relationship with the Marist Rugby Club at their headquarter in Suva yesterday.

The company also handed a cheque for $55,000 to club president Lawrence Tikaram for the 7s tournament next month at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Paradise Beverages head of sales and corporate affairs Joseph Rodan said it was a proud day to honour the relationship between the company and the club.

"It is an important day for us apart from presenting the prize-money we are also launching our Fiji Bitter Marist can to honour the relationship we had with Marist for the past 42 years and to honour the development of 7s rugby in the past 42 years," Rodan said.

"We did a market research and found out that is what the market wants and we decided to put up the product which has a Fiji Bitter formulation, but it is in a bigger can which is 440ml with six per cent alcohol as the normal one contains 4.5 per cent in the 330ml."

Tikaram said the $55,000 sponsorship included kind and cash from the company.

"There are 76 teams in the tournament which includes 64 men's and 12 women's teams and we are looking at about 1000 plus players where 200 matches will be played in the four grounds," he said.

The tournament will be played from March 23-24.
