Momoedonu out to stamp mark

BEING new to the fashion industry has not stopped 20-year-old Kolora Momoedonu from striving to make a name for herself in a growing industry.

Originally from Viseisei Village, Vuda in Lautoka, Momoedonu is one of the two representatives chosen to represent the country at the World Supermodel Pageant South Pacific 2018 in April at The Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour.

Momoedonu said she was excited and honoured to represent the country at this year's regional event.

"I never thought that one day I will take centre stage for the country. My passion for modelling started just last year," she said.

"The Fiji Fashion Week members contacted me to audition for the event and since then I have developed a passion for modelling because it is so exciting, so much fun and definitely a new experience."

She said the most intriguing part of the fashion industry was how people were creative in the industry.

Momoedonu said she had not decided on an advocacy message for the pageant yet.

"I am still thinking of this. The support from my family and friends is massive. They definitely like the idea of me getting out there. I was into beauty pageants and I was even surprised by myself when I applied," she said. "My ambition is to become a financial lawyer or a politician. My biggest motivator in life is my mother because she strives for the best for the family. She has been there for the family.

"She is very hardworking and sacrificed a lot for us."

She said her preparations had been going on well and if she got a chance to compete at the international event in Vietnam later in the year, she would definitely help the Fiji fashion industry.

"I will help the industry to take a step into the international platform. I want to show the world that there is a lot of potential for designers, models and anyone with passion for the industry."
