Dump raises ire of residents

A TEMPORARY vehicle dump site located in a residential boundary has raised the concerns of residents in the area.

The dump site, which belongs to the Nasinu Town Council, is situated at Kuluvata Rd in Nadera.

One of the residents who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the vehicles had been left in the area for some time and had become an eyesore and a health hazard.

"The vehicles have been lying there for some time now. As you can see, about 16 vehicles are there. I don't know why they have to come and dump them here," he said.

"They should have a separate place for these kinds of vehicles, like a scrap yard.

"Children are also likely to play near the vehicles. They can get hurt in the process.

"These vehicles also become a harbouring ground for thieves in the area especially during the night and rainy weather.

"The grass growing in the area is also getting bigger day by day and no one from the council has come to look into this."

He called on the authorities to look into the matter and make plans to clear the vehicles from the site.

Council chief executive officer Lute Berends said the council used the area as a temporary storage for their wreck removal program. Mr Berends said they would remove all wrecks from the site once their program concluded.

He said there would be another clean-up of wrecks along the roadsides next week.
