AS part of its new five-year strategic plan, the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) made a key recruitment in order to highlight its key activities and results to the public.

The commission has appointed a new communications officer (CO) — Khusboo Singh — who joins with immense experience in the media and information dissemination field.

Ms Singh completed her degree in India majoring in linguistics and further completed her post graduate studies at the University of the South Pacific in diplomacy.

She also has strong background in consumer protection as well having been previously employed by the Consumer Council of Fiji in a similar role. Her role includes publishing outcomes of successful investigations and the enforcement powers of the FCCC.

The position also includes encompassing educating Fijians on consumer protection and relevant laws along with creating awareness among traders on fair market practices. She will also ensure that the FCCC website is regularly updated with information for the public and media alike.

The commission in a statement stressed that timely dissemination of information would ensure that the public was made aware of the current market practices and the appropriate measures being taken in matters where the need arises.

This will be done in line with the FCCC's communication strategy in place which will help ensure the roles and functions of the CO is undertaken and delivered in a timely manner with the internal and external stakeholders.

The CO will be the point of contact for FCCC for any media queries, stakeholder queries or request for information.

The FCCC's new five-year strategic plan is from 2017 to 2022 where the body will meet the following four key strategic objectives:

* markets for goods and services in Fiji are competitive.

* consumers in Fiji are offered goods and services that are safe and are provided with adequate and accurate information about them

* regulation, including price control, is applied where economically justified and in a manner that is as economically efficient as practicable; and

* FCCC is respected by Government, businesses and the public as an independent and expert body.
