TOURISTS visiting Labasa will now have a chance to know more about the history of Macuata.

This is because the management of Grand Eastern Hotel, headed by popular businessman Charan Jeath Singh are in final stages of purchasing a boat from Dubai to cater for this new program.

"It's about breaking that norm of where tourists just come to Labasa and only get to see Labasa Town and the Naag Mandir and other well- known sites but don't get the chance to visit outer islands," he said.

"With this new sightseeing program, tourists and locals as well will get to travel to Kia, Mali and Vorovoro and hear about the traditional stories of these places.

"They will also get to taste local food that will be prepared by the villagers."

This program, he added would also benefit the villagers.

"I have started talking with the chiefs and traditional leaders of these areas and about this program and they are more than happy to be part of it," Mr Singh said.

"We will also give them some returns as part of this program so everyone benefits.

"It's the first for Labasa and we need to market our beloved town to our tourists ensuring they visit the town of the Friendly North."

Tourists, he added would be entertained with traditional activities, organised by villagers.

Mr Singh said he would soon seal the deal with the company in Dubai.

"These tourists and locals who want to join will board the vessel from Grand Eastern Hotel.

"We will repair and upgrade the jetty facility at the hotel and the sightseeing program will be a day's trip," he said.
