No guidelines for party's social media use

THERE are no guidelines for Social Democratic Liberal Party members on social media use, says party leader Sitiveni Rabuka.

The former prime minister said every member was accountable for his/her action online.

"For us as a party, there is no disciplined platform laid out on how they use it," he said.

"Because it's a personal one, every person will have to answer personally for what they put on social media.

"The party is not responsible for it. "We don't say (to them) 'do not' and we don't say 'be smart'.

"They should know that if they are running for national leadership, they should be smart enough to know what can and what cannot be said.

"They should know what is appropriate and what is not appropriate for social media.

"I'm an aspiring candidate and that's the way I think.

"Some of them are much more academically qualified than I am, perhaps they have not lived as long as I have lived but because of the experience that I have, I would like to guide them through this. The moral principle of the party is 'do good to all people with malice towards none'."

Mr Rabuka also condemned the attacks on Hindu temples.

He urged police to move quickly to apprehend those criminal elements in society.
