Platform for dialogue

SOCIAL Democratic Liberal Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka says messages issued by political parties have been "twisted" by the local media.

While launching the party's new website in Viseisei, Vuda yesterday, he said supporters of political parties were not receiving the full message given out by their leaders, thus the need to establish and maintain a website that was interactive and that could be accessed with ease.

"It is a very effective way to communicate and to say what you are and what you are all about," he said.

"Unfortunately, there have been a lot of limitations on rights and particularly, on political parties for their views to be conveyed and the way they issue the views," Mr Rabuka claimed.

"There is always the editorial twist or the editorial censorship. We would like the people to see our views for themselves and they in turn have their own twists to the original message that we send out."

The former prime minister said the party's website would also be a platform for dialogue between the party's representatives and its supporters. "While we disseminate our views and manifestos, they will also contribute to the dialogue and help us to continue to develop our views and policies. We also can determine from the views of the public what the people are thinking about us and not what editors are thinking about us."

The website was launched with the support of the Tui Vuda Ratu Kitione Tavaiqia and Tui Nadi Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci.
