Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma president Reverend Epineri Vakadewavosa encouraged women to pray for the nation.

He urged them at the 70th anniversary of the Methodist Women's Fellowship celebration held at Ratu Ganilau Park in Savusavu yesterday.

"Always serve the Lord with a truthful heart and your prayers will steer Fiji forward," he said.

Mr Vakadewavosa said women were the mothers of Fiji.

"Their hard work and dedication is found not only within their homes but everywhere they go," he said.

"My only message to women is to continue with the prayers because it is the only way we can move Fiji forward."

Mr Vakadewavosa said a lot of issues, such as the increase in drug abuse, violence against women and children and other related issues, could be resolved through prayers.

"A lot of these issues are brought in by changes, like introduction of new technologies that we have today," he said.

"All these issues mainly arise from the amount of information and the advanced information that we have today."

About 2000 women gathered for the celebration.
