Waran reaps rewards

RAVNESH Waran believes sacrifice brings in rewards.

The National Toppers Scheme scholarship recipient said his sacrifice had paid off.

"All my sacrifice, sleepless nights and the entire hard work we contributed as a family have now been awarded," he said.

The 19-year-old lad and former student of Labasa College is the eldest of two siblings in his family and lives in Wailevu settlement, a few minutes from Labasa Town.

He scored 377 out of 400 in his Fiji Seventh Form Examination last year.

"I thank my family for their love and support because if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have received this scholarship," he said. "I am looking forward to moving over to Suva as I will be attending the College of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences under the Fiji National University."

Mr Waran dedicated his success to his parents, who have been his pillar of strength.

"I believe success comes after hard work and hard work comes with a lot of dedication and I am reaping that hard work today," he said. "My parents have a small canteen in town and my father works as a salesman at Raqib Auto Spares in Labasa and is also a part-time taxidriver."

Mr Waran looks forward to beginning university as it would be his first time away from home as well. "My only advice to my peers is work hard now and you will enjoy life later."

His father, Venkteshwar Waran, said he was proud of his son and wished him well in his studies. "He made it and we will be by his side to support him all the way," he said.
