TLTB owed $18.3m

AS much as $18.3 million in land rental arrears is owed by 20,000 tenants of the iTaukei Land Trust Board.

TLTB general manager Tevita Kuruvakadua said tenants now had an opportunity to clear their arrears and rents through the grace period.

In a statement, Mr Kuruvakadua said the TLTB would waive interest on all payments on land grant and fees between January to June this year.

He said this was an initiative by the board to recover the arrears that accumulated over the years and provide all landowners what they were entitled to receive from the use of their land.

"All TLTB tenants are reminded once again to ensure timely payment of their rent by 1st January and 1st July every year. For tenants to qualify for the waiver, they must pay their current rent and settle their arrears of previous years," he said.

Mr Kuruvakadua said tenants must pay their arrears now to avoid court action and possible eviction from their lease, which was an unpleasant thing the board wanted to avoid.

He says payment could be made at any Post Fiji office outlet, banks and MH stores around the country.
