Region relies on air connectivity, says Khan

AIR transportation is the greatest enabler for connecting our people and our economies, says Airports Fiji Ltd (AFL) executive chairperson Faiz Khan.

Speaking at the Airports Council International (ACI) and International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Aerodrome Certification, Compliance and Auditing seminar in Nadi yesterday, Mr Khan said in the Pacific, economies were heavily reliant on air connectivity.

He said this was because of the geographical isolation.

"Our economies are heavily reliant on air connectivity for generating trade and tourism for economic growth," he said.

"It is important that we continue to upskill our people through trainings to ensure our airports are safe, integrated, efficient and sustainable for air travel in today's jet age."

Meanwhile, Mr Khan said AFL would host six aviation related seminars, workshops and meetings in Nadi this year.

"Because of the challenges faced by Pacific Island countries to attend such seminars that are usually held far and wide, we want to bring as many seminars to the Pacific's doorsteps."

Twenty-three participants from Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Fiji are in Nadi for the week-long meeting.
