Kepa to apply for SODELPA ticket

OPPOSITION Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa has expressed her interest to contest this year's poll on a Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) ticket.

Ro Teimumu said she was in the process of applying to the party.

Last week, Ro Teimumu said eight chiefs from Rewa and the Tui Suva, Sanaila Mudunavosa, approached her and requested her to contest the election.

She said she agreed to the submission by the chiefs because they had supported her since 2006.

SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka has already indicated his willingness to work with Ro Teimumu, keeping aside his personal difference.

Mr Rabuka said while the deadline for the party's candidates' expressions of interest had closed, Ro Teimumu still had a chance to apply.

"There is an understanding that the candidate for Rewa has not been received, nobody has applied for the Rewa seat — geographic — even though it's all national constituencies."

Meanwhile, Mr Rabuka urged supporters to get involved in the party's preparatory efforts towards the 2018 General Election. He said the party was ready for the writ of elections.

Under the Constitution, the earliest possible date for issue of the writ of elections is April 6 and the latest is September.

Last week, Mr Rabuka met Ro Teimumu and party candidates Tanya Waqanika and Lynda Tabuya. He said he was encouraged by the high calibre of candidates and was encouraged by the women who stepped forward.
