Serevi, Ryan believe Tuwai can deliver

RUGBY greats and 7s king Waisale Serevi and former coach Ben Ryan have vouched for the return of former national rep Pio Tuwai for national duties.

The gentlemen are part of the 2018 Mana Whey Fiji Coral Coast Sevens at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Ryan and Serevi are guests, while Tuwai, since missing the Rio 2016 Olympics selection, is back in action.

He is part of the McDonald's Saunaka team which included Olympians Kitione Taliga, Masivesi Dakuwaqa and Vatemo Ravouvou.

Ravouvou missed the Sydney and New Zealand selection because of disciplinary reasons, said the Fiji Rugby Union on Thursday.

"Even though I am in New Zealand, I am available to play again for Fiji. I am working hard to prove myself. I am fit and ready and know that this year is challenging. I am available anytime if I am needed," Tuwai said.

"Whether it is the series or the Commonwealth Games and the sevens world cup, I am available and ready. I want to help Fiji win our first Commonwealth Games gold medal."

Serevi and Ryan said Tuwai was exceptional. He can goosestep, has the physique of a 7s forward, can control and master play, is unpredictable with ball in hand, and a master off-loader.

"He has everything," Serevi said.

"We all know and seen what Pio Tuwai can do. The only thing is for him to get fitter. We have about seven months to go to the world cup. We are not late. Different coaches have different plans and he decides who he wants to use. Pio needs to get fitter and follow the program and catch up with the coach."

Ryan declared during his tenure here that Tuwai was among his top players.

"It would be great to see how he gets on and play.

"I know that there are a few boys who are playing here who will be trying their best to catch the eyes of Gareth and force their way into the national squad."
