Bainimarama fires back at reports

GIMMICKY reporting won't distract my Government.

That was the comment made by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama while delivering his speech during the commissioning of the Christian Mission Fellowship College school furniture in Kinoya, Nasinu, yesterday.

Mr Bainimarama said it was unfortunate that some media organisations in Fiji did not share in the same commitment and were only interested in brewing up false drama, all at the expense of students.

"Only a few days ago, they've reported on students schooling in tents, when in reality, they are in brand new school buildings," Mr Bainimarama said.

"They've reported on children travelling in inner tubes to school, when in reality they are now travelling by boat."

He said the Government was committed to staying the course and was committed to students, parents and teachers. "We are committed to Fiji," he said.

He said Government would continue the massive rebuild from Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston, reconstructing and refortifying schools across the country to a far higher standard in resilience.

"The rebuild has made great progress, it is taking time because we aren't doing what is easy, or politically expedient, by pursuing quick fixes," he said.
