A TOTAL of 624,404 Fijians are expected to cast their votes in this year's general election.

This is an increase from 591,101 registered voters who voted in the 2014 General Election.

The Central and Western divisions make up more than two thirds of the 2018 total voting population, accounting for 263,506 voters and 232,606 voters respectively.

The Northern Division has a voting population of 94,408 while the Eastern Division has 26,320 voters.

According to the Fijian Elections Office, more men would be voting in this year's election totalling 315,624 voters with 308,780 female voters.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said at the conclusion of the overseas voter registration drive, the FEO recorded 7564 voters who would apply for postal voting once the election date was announced.

"The total number of voters (without factoring any voter who may apply for a postal vote) who are ideally expected to vote on election day stands at 550,735, and those under pre-poll arrangements are 73,669," Mr Saneem said.

He confirmed that 1435 polling venues would be operational around the country, 589 of which would be pre-polling venues while the remaining 846 venues would be used for polling on election day.

Based on the voter data as at December 31, 2017, the FEO estimates it will operate 1551 polling stations on election day.

Mr Saneem said based on the current voter data and polling station numbers, the FEO would be required to print 757,850 ballot papers and compile 15,157 ballot books.

He also revealed the total number of polling staff required for this year's election would be 10,593.
