A FAMILY is mourning the death of their son and father who died while working on a leaked water pipe along the Damanu Rd in Labasa on Sunday night.

Latu Finau, the mother of the deceased, said she still could not believe that her son Tomasi Kanailagi was gone.

Mr Kanailagi, 30, is married to Arieta Wawatabua. The family lives at Nailawa Settlement, Labasa.

"This is a really sad beginning for us this year and I am saddened because he is gone, leaving his wife and his two daughters behind," she said.

"We miss him and I must say that he was a real family man. He will be sadly missed by us all," she said.

"He was looking forward to the beginning of this year because his eldest daughter will be attending Year Three this year while his youngest will turn one year 11 months tomorrow (today)."

His wife, Arieta, said: "He came home to pick his lunch and as he always did he would hug and kiss our daughters before he leaves.

"As he went out the house, the last thing he did was wave and smile and I couldn't believe that it would be our last goodbye."

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the post-mortem examination had yet to be carried out.
