Weather watch: Flood warning for Rakiraki

Update: 7:47PM A FLOOD warning is in force for Rakiraki. The warning was issued by the Fiji Meteorological Services this afternoon after a heavy down pour caused flash floods in various parts of the Western Division.

According to the special weather bulletin, the warning was in force for low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to the downstream of Vatukacevaceva station to Rakiraki Town.

It was also in force for low lying areas, small streams and areas downstream of Toge station to Ba Town.

The bulletin stated that water levels at Vatukacevaceva were measured at 1.89meters at 5pm which was 0.39meters above the warning level and this was still increasing.

The water level at Toge Station was recoreded at 8.28meters at 5pm which was 2.28meters above the warning level.

The level at Ba near the Fiji Sugar Corporation mill was at 4.37m at 5pm which was 0.87m above warning levels.

The weather office also reported that high tide was expected to occur at 9.28pm at a height of 1.78m.

The next bulletin will be released at 8.15pm today.
