Police seize 1000 plants in drug bust

Update: 5:06PM POLICE chief operations officer ACP Rusiate Tudravu has called on village headmen around the country to work hard on knowing the status of visitors to their communities.

This as Police teams are currently on Kadavu Island conducting raids in farms.

ACP Tudravu said the first marijuana farm raided by Police resulted in one man being captured while another two fled the scene.

Police have confirmed that out of the three people on the farm, two are not from Kadavu.

"The vanua has a big role to play in the fight against drugs and we should have pride and take ownership and protect our homes at all times," ACP Tudravu said.

"If you don't want the name of your village or community tarnished then do the right thing and report crime or any suspicious activity. If someone is living in your community and you don't know who they are and how they're earning a living ask questions and don't let someone into your lives and communities who will do nothing but harm you".

ACP Tudravu said the raid conducted on the farm resulted in close to 1000 marijuana plants seized from the first farm.

The Police team lead by Deputy Divisional Police Commander Southern SP Sakeo Ganivatu had to trek for up to three hours on mountainous terrains to reach the farms.

The team will move to two other marijuana farms also in the same village.

ACP Tudravu also called on members of the public not to be scared when tipping off the Police Force on issues as such as the Police will be there to protect their identity.
