Volleyball bonding

TEAM bonding will be an important aspect for the Fiji beach volleyball team ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, says top beach volleyball player Inia Korowale.

The Fiji beach volleyball team is touring New Zealand to get experience ahead of the Commonwealth Games in April.

Korowale partnered with Qilu Elliot in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu last month to win the qualifying event for the Commonwealth Games.

Korowale,30, said volleyball had allowed him to travel to places he did not dream of.

"Being in the disciplined force helped me a lot in terms of fitness because it requires me to be fit all the time and it helps me in the sport," the Fiji Corrections Service officer said.

"It is exciting and interesting to play volleyball and I am able to explore new things including visiting many places and meeting people.

"I combined well with Qilu Elliot in the Pacific Mini Games and our bond became very strong which helped us to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.

"There were times when we had to play strong teams in the competition and we won a number of matches. There were some difficulties, but we did our best.

"I have been playing beach volleyball since 2008 and I am planning to help Fiji Volleyball Federation in coaching after I finish playing. I can play for another 12 years as long as I am fit and follow my training programs."

The Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4-16.
