3011 calls to Health Ministry

THE Health Ministry has received 3011 calls from June 2016 to January this year through its helpline for health feedback.

While responding to queries sent by this newspaper, the ministry said there was no single standout issues but concerns callers expressed were related to long waiting times, staff attitude and delays in obtaining results and reports.

In addition, 149 emails and 430 SMS were received. All calls were referred to the relevant ministry staff for investigation.

"It has created opportunities for the Health Ministry to work with the Ministry of Civil Service in organising a "customer care training" for clinicians which will be facilitated by the Fiji National University (FNU) as a strategy to improve customer services within the health system," the ministry said.

"It has also enabled the ministry to monitor and enhance its resource and equipment operations."

The ministry also said that callers also provided positive recommendations to the ministry on how they could improve their service.

"The helpline enables the ministry to respond to customer feedback at the earliest, and in return ensuring gaps identified by customers are addressed by the appropriate departmental heads within the ministry.

"The focus is on strengthening the health system through quality health service provision focusing on patient safety and risk management."

The ministry could not, however, confirm the cost of this helpline exercise.
