Keeping up with the Joneses

The 2016 American action comedy film starring the beautiful Israeli actress Gal Gadot revolves around living a double life and international espionage.

The intriguing parts of these action comedy film is not the incredible actors who play spies and suburbia homeowners, it's actually the cars selected to be featured in the movie.

In the movie there is the typical soccer mum van like the 2012 Dodge Caravan, the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic which you can find here in Fiji with the 2013 Honda Civic.

Now it gets interesting when the Joneses (Gal Gadot who plays Natalie Jones and Jon Hamm who plays Tim Jones) appear in the scenes. Living a double life the couple pull up to their new home at suburbia in a 2012 Mercedes Benz CLS 550 and a 2012 Mercedes Benz ML, quite high maintenance for a simple suburban family.

There are other amazing vehicles showcased in this movie that haven't shared the limelight like the up class Mercedes Benz that are featured but it all needs a mention and that vehicle list includes the International 4000 Series, the old school 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis, the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, 2003 Ford Crown Victoria, the 2012 KTM Duke and the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid.

So here are the top vehicles featured in this movie that made an impact.

2011 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG

According to it's five and a half feet long. It weighs 8.8 pounds. Height of an adult female, weight of a gallon or so of gas — these are the critical dimensions of the carbon-fibre driveshaft running between the engine and the rear-mounted transaxle in the new Mercedes SLS AMG.

The most distinctive aspect of the SLS's appearance is, of course, its roof-hinged gullwing doors, an homage to the iconic 300SL Gullwing. But AMG personnel took pains to point out that the doors are the only thing the SLS has in common with the 300SL. The interior is simple and uncluttered, much like a current SL roadster. While the car's structure is a pure AMG design, most of the parts, except for the shifter, are from the Mercedes bin.

The centre console has an aluminium finish, with carbon fibre an option. In order to satisfy emissions standards-EU5, LEVII, ULEV — the Bosch ME 9.7 AMG engine management is set up to recharge the battery during deceleration.

2012 Mercedes Benz CLS 550

According to when it was launched in the United States in 2005, the Mercedes-Benz CLS turned heads, and the "four-door coupe" oxymoron suddenly made some sense.

Even though the car was little more than a re-bodied E-class, 40,000 examples whizzed out of American dealerships in five years. Now we have a new CLS for 2012. Note that it's still fundamentally an E-class.

The wheelbase is up, from 112.4 inches to 113.2, and the overall length has jumped by nearly an inch.

The height and the width increase, too, as do the front and rear tracks. The biggest difference is the lack of a naturally aspirated power plant. In place of the previous car's 5.5-litre V-8, the CLS550 now sports a 4.7-litre, direct-injection, twin-turbo V-8.

Volkswagen Vanagon Camper (Typ 2/ T3)

According to the 3 door van/ 3 doors pick-up was available with both a four and five speed manual as well as a 3-spd automatic transmission.

The automatic had a 1.0 ratio top gear and was a standard hydraulic used by many Audis of the same area.

The 4-speed manual was fitted with a lightweight aluminium alloy case and was initially the other manual option.

In 1983 the five speed manual was offered for certain models and stock on diesel engine and Syncro 4X4 Vanagons.

Original air cooled engines came with both quality issues as well as manufacturing cost problems. Later on in the Vanagon generation water cooled versions were introduced. Because the motor was mounted near the transaxle very low in the back certain accommodations were made to reach basic engine components.
