TEAM Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower has called on the national sporting bodies to arrange for the players' levies for the 2018 Commonwealth Games which will be held in Gold Coast, Australia.

"We do not like the levy issue to be a stumbling block for the athletes," Bower said.

"We are asking the national federations to come on board with player levy. The way they budget their allocations should make sure they have sorted that out rather than getting the burden on the athletes.

"The athletes are there to do their best and the federations are there to support them. FASANOC and federations have their part to play and also we need to ensure that we need to do a little fundraising to see that our funds are in order."

Team Fiji will take 144 athletes, officials and support staff which will be made up of 45 male and 53 female athletes competing in the 12 different sports.

"All the preparations is to make sure the athletes are comfortable and well prepared for the competition when they compete in the Gold Coast. We have a large number of athletes and officials who would be travelling to Australia," he said.

"Commonwealth Games is a high-level competition and so we are expecting the athletes to prepare well and we are expecting them to make a good use of what the Government, FASANOC and what the nation has invested in them.

"The athletes need to be at a certain level to compete against the top athletes in the world. Commonwealth Games demands a high level of performance. Weight-lifting is sending its biggest team which includes eight competitors who would be representing Fiji and there is a great possibility of doing excellent work and achievement."

The Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4-15. Meanwhile, Christopher Yee and Ajay Ballu will be the general managers for Team Fiji while Fesaitu Mario will be the administrator.
