FIJI Drua skipper John Stewart is out to impress selectors during the provincial 10s today in order to earn a place in the national side for the Brisbane Global 10s after.

Stewart was not considered for the second leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Stewart believes he may have lacked in his performance during the first leg, but is eager to make the Fiji 10s teams and is looking to play for the Fiji Airways 7s team again.

"Maybe I just did not perform in the last leg (Dubai, Cape Town 7s)," he said.

"But there are always other ways of improving and moving forward. For me getting back for Suva and provincial 10s this week is another way forward. Just keeping other options open for 7s and 15s and if I get considered 7s again, I won't mind to give it another go.

"Fiji 7s have a good team with lot of talents in Fiji so whenever you get a chance to represent your country make the most of it because you don't know how long or how far you will be in the team for," Stewart said.

Eight provincial sides Nadroga, Nadi, Suva, Rewa, Namosi, Navosa, Naitasiri and Malolo will battle at Buckhurst and Bidesi Park today during the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) 10s.

Stewart believes the best talents from the provincial teams in action would provide a challenge for players to be selected.

"Everyone is gunning for a place in the Fiji rugby 10s team. FRU 10s will be interesting and tough competition this week. This is also positive for teams to assist them in their preseason," he said.

Matches start 9am.

The Brisbane Global 10s will be held on February 9 and 10 at Suncorp Stadium in Australia.

Fiji is grouped in pool c with the Brumbies, Hurricanes and Crusaders. All Blacks stars Julian Savea, Liam Messam and Wallabies back Kurtley Beale are some of the talents who will participate in the event.
