Saneem ensures integrity of ballot

SUPERVISOR of Elections Mohammed Saneem has assured the public that the sanctity and integrity of the ballot for Fijian soldiers serving in the Middle East will be protected.

Republic of Fiji Military Forces chief of staff Colonel Jone Kalouniwai confirmed that selected military personnel serving in the Middle East would act as liaison officers for Fijian Elections Office officials travelling to those countries.

Col. Kalouniwai said these personnel would accompany election officials to collect ballot papers during the coming general election.

Mr Saneem said they were working closely with organisations whose personnel were serving in these areas to ensure they would all vote in the 2018 General Election.

"They are ambassadors of the country and the FEO will make necessary arrangements for them to be able to vote," he said.

"As you understand, these places where our Fijians are peacekeepers are high-risk security areas and high level of clearance is required together with special training and the FEO has decided that we seek assistance from the organisations that effectively provide services in those areas who have accredited people to enter those areas to act as liaison officers for us.

"The integrity and sanctity of the ballot will be protected because we will be sending postal voting kits to these locations," he said.
