No new party registration

THERE is no new proposed political party registration pending before the office of the Registrar of Political Parties at the moment.

This was confirmed by the Registrar and Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.

"There are no applications on foot at the moment," he said.

With the election date still yet to be set, Mr Saneem said the Fijian Elections Office was now in the process of finalising polling venues.

"We intend to finalise and lock down all the polling venues by March this year," he said.

And as part of its preparations, the FEO will conduct training for media personnel next month. The training will be conducted by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) on reporting for the media. He said the training would have facilitators from the New York Times and IFES.

Meanwhile, Mr Saneem said they had completed all overseas voter registrations. He said they were finalising the number of people registered and would release this data after compilation.
