Plans set to improve NEC

THE Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations plans to improve the operational work of the National Employment Centre.

While speaking in Nadi this week during the draft National Employment Policy consultations, deputy secretary Vilimone Baledrokadroka said this was one of the priorities for the ministry under the draft policy.

"Under priority one, which focuses on creating opportunities for quality skills upgrading, that leads to productive employment, we have a few strategies," he said.

"One of the strategies is for the ministry to resource the National Employment Centre to offer placement services.

"This will allow us to prepare well the graduates registered with the centre, especially on the expectations of the employers.

"Some of them go to their workplace and cannot perform well because what they learnt is not the same as what they will be doing at their new workplace.

"So that is something that we are looking to improve on."

The consultations in the Western Division ended in Rakiraki yesterday.
