Employers urged to contact centre

EMPLOYERS have been urged to contact the National Employment Centre (NEC) if they wish to hire suitable candidates.

The issue of wages paid to unskilled labourers was put to a team from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations during the draft National Employment Policy's consultation in Ba on Thursday.

Ba businessman Anil Amin said they often had issues with unskilled personnel, who started to demand more pay after being employed for a few months.

Principal labour officer west Eferemo Ratucoko said employers could provide employment to relevant people registered with the NEC.

"With this, you can get people to attach for six months and then pay their regular wages beyond that period," he said.

"It is also very important to choose the right person for a particular job when it comes to recruitment."

The ministry's deputy secretary, Vilimone Baledrokadroka, said the present wage rate for non-graduates registered with the NEC was $60 per week for the attachment period. For graduates, it is $100 weekly.
