FEO 'short' on poll staff

THE Fijian Elections Office is still short of staff ahead of the much-anticipated 2018 General Election.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has therefore encouraged the public to apply during this last round of recruitment that closes later this month.

The FEO recently conducted training for teachers as standby staff during the poll.

"At the moment we are still short of staff. Actually in 62 polling places we are still yet to get any staff application so we are evaluating that and we will be conducting direct recruitment in those areas in due course," Mr Saneem said.

He said the FEO needed about 17,000 polling staff for this year's election.

Mr Saneem said he was confident polling venues would be adequately staffed during the election.
