Parents get police warning

Saturday, January 06, 2018

Update: 7:58PM PARENTS and guardians need to be mindful of their children's safety says Police chief of operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu.

Mr Tudravu said in light of the latest drowning cases in the country, no parent would dream of losing their loved ones before the start of this new school year.

"This is the time when people would want to go out swimming with their friends or their loved ones," Mr Tudravu said.

"Please keep a close watch of your children, keep them under great supervision especially when you go out for picnics or swimming."

"We are into the hurricane season now where we mostly will have flooding or flash flooding and would like to advise people in advance never to swim across these rivers or streams."

Mr Tudravu said public awareness had been made by the Fiji Police Force to spread the word on water safety.

"Sometimes we are being pointed at and many would say that we are not doing our part," he said.

"We have been conducting a lot of awareness on public and water safety and I am encouraging all members of the public to adhere to warnings being issued by us or any relevant authority for that matter.
