Travel ban for lawman

Aqela Susu
Thursday, January 04, 2018

THE Suva Magistrates Court has imposed a travel ban against a police officer charged with indecent assault.

Saimoni Cakacaka is alleged to have indecently assaulted a female police officer.

Mr Cakacaka appeared before Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage yesterday.

The alleged incidents happened on March 13, 2016, and March 19, last year at Lakeba in Lau.

In court yesterday, police prosecutor Corporal Luke Qerawaqa objected to bail for the officer on the grounds that the case was of public interest and that the accused was a police officer.

Mr Cakacaka was released on bail and would reappear in court on March 13.

Meanwhile, parliamentarian Balmindar Singh was yesterday released on a $2000 bail bond by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Mr Singh was alleged to have assaulted a bus driver at a nightclub in Suva last month.

He will reappear in court on March 8.
