Investigations in progress, two officers suspended

Monday, December 18, 2017

TWO police officers have been suspended pending investigations and their team leader being investigated after an inmate in remand escaped from the Suva courthouse on Thursday.

Police chief operations officer ACP Rusiate Tudravu said investigations into how remand inmate Kelepi Salauca escaped from custody had started and the Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, has directed that the team leader also be investigated.

Salauca was recaptured yesterday morning.

"Commissioner has also directed whoever was the team leader to also be investigated and see if there was laxity on their part which led to the escape," Mr Tudravu said.

"A lot of time and resources was spent on apprehending Salauca and we cannot allow this to be happening. A parallel investigation has been directed to those who have been harbouring him since his escape."
