A NUMBER of developments have been earmarked for Lami Town and according to special administrator Jasper Singh, the municipality has made positive progress over the years.

Speaking at the town's 40th anniversary celebration at Tikaram Park in Lami yesterday, Lami Town Council special administrator Jasper Singh urged the business community to continue its investment in the municipality.

Mr Singh said some of the development plans included the expansion of Jonny Singh Park, fencing and multipurpose courts.

"We have made the announcement that every park in Lami should have some sort of court, whether it be for basketball or volleyball. These should also have proper toilet facilities," Mr Singh said.

"We have a couple of long-term plans as well. Lami is going outwards. We have plans to build a plaza in Lami and we have approved the existing Lami Town Council office for the plaza."

Meanwhile, the town council is also working to expand Tikaram Park, which would enable the council to host festivals.

He said the environmental impact assessment had been carried out and works were expected to start soon.

The park is expected to be extended by 10-12 metres.

Minister for Local Governments Parveen Kumar assured the people of Lami and the town council of Government's support.

"On the redevelopment of the market and plaza, I would like to urge the Lami Town Council to come up with a master plan because it is important to redevelop the current market," Mr Kumar said.
