FRA sets plans for city roadwork

THE Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) hopes to begin scheduled works on Kimberly St in Suva once negotiations with the Water Authority of Fiji are completed.

This was confirmed by the Central Maintenance Contract Manager for FRA, Viliame Vatuwaliwali.

"FRA is dealing with WAF to finalise supply of new WAF pipes, fitting details - to be installed before actual road rehabilitation works can begin," Mr Vatuwaliwali said.

"FRA is pushing to finalise these details with WAF by tomorrow (today), source the materials and hopefully start work late this week."

The FRA issued a statement notifying road users of the works on Kimberly St, which was expected to begin last week.

FRA general manager network operations and maintenance Aram Goes said they would first have to attend to the water main relocation and protection work before the road work could begin.

Meanwhile, the Nadi four-lane project would be fully open to drivers from today. This was confirmed by the chief executive officer of FRA, Jonathan Moore.

Mr Moore said the works around the Wailoaloa junction were completed and would be open to drivers from today.

He said a lot of effort had been invested in the opening of the road as soon as possible.

"One of the problems with Martintar is that it suffers greatly when you have properties access from the main highway," Mr Moore said. "So the intention in Martintar is that every property is serviced either from the side road or from the service road and that makes the traffic flow on the main highway far better.

"So that has been achieved, but there are two or three areas where the service lane has not been completed yet and that will be done between now and April next year.

"But as far as the main road is concerned, that will be open from today."
