Mammogram machine back in service

THE mammogram machine at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) is finally operational after being out of service for about four months.

In a statement, Health and Medical Services Ministry, stated the mammogram machine had been repaired and was operating normally for more than a month.

"The parts required for their repair cost less than $5000, but due to their specialised nature, it had to be sourced from overseas," the statement read.

Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar was informed by the head of surgery at CWMH at the opening of their Oncology Unit in October this year that the machine was not working.

Ms Akbar was not pleased, but promised to look into it.

A mammogram machine is an essential scanning tool for breast cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society, a mammogram can often find or detect breast cancer early when it's small and even before a lump can be felt.
