POLICE have called on parents and guardians to keep a close tab on their children during the school break.

This after a one-year-old child was hospitalised at the Labasa Hospital after he accidentally dropped hot water on himself on Monday.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the child was trying to reach for something in their kitchen shelf when he accidentally tipped the container of hot water.

"The container was allegedly left on the shelf unattended by the child's parent," she said.

"He is currently in serious condition and is admitted at the accident and emergency ward.

"Police are continuing investigations into the incident to determine the truth of the matter."

Ms Naisoro has called on parents to take good care of their children, adding they needed to know about their whereabouts.

"Most of these children would be at home during this school break and they need to be attended to and supervised at all times," she said. "This is a serious concern and parents need to really consider the life of their children."
