CIVICUS World Assembly: No one left behind

Update: 1:32PM THE PACIFIC is often left behind and the issues of the region, therefore, not prioritised.

That was a challenge that CIVICUS wanted to address and the main reason it chose Fiji as the venue for its flagship event, the International Civil Society Week which ends in Suva today.

Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation is one of the largest civil society umbrella organisations with local, national, regional and international members working on every relevant development topic.

Secretary-General Dr Dhananjayan Sriskandarajah said the point of having a Pacific ICSW was to draw the world of CSOs together.

"It's been such an amazing week to learn about the issues facing the Pacific and connect with Pacific activists," Dr Dhananjayan said.

The organisation is guided by the values of justice and equality, reciprocity, knowledge, vision and principled courage.

"I hope by bringing so many people from so many different countries here, the rest of the world can stand in solidarity, with the people of the Pacific," the CIVICUS SG said.

"You are facing some big challenges. We are here, side by side to help make this a sustainable and thriving part of the world."
