Fiji camp

TEAM Fiji is camping at the Central School in Port Vila and the atmosphere and the environment is just like back in Fiji. Chef de mission Wayne O'Connor said the morale was high in the team camp and the athletes were looking at winning gold medals in their respective events.

Past memory

While having a chat with one official from Team Fiji we had a good laugh after he mentioned how an athlete had responded when he was interviewed by a reporter. The athlete won a gold medal and when he was approached for a radio interview, the athlete was so shy that whenever he was questioned he would only respond with a gesture. When he was asked to describe how he felt by the reporter he only gave a thumbs up.

Our camp

After a long journey on the opening day we came back late from the Korman Stadium where the official ceremony took place, but we had to look for meals since all the shops and restaurants were closed. We were lucky to have some meals kept in our unit by the owner of the Tradewinds Resort.

Morning surprise

After a long day at work on day one of the competition we went to bed just after 1am (Vanuatu time) and when I opened my eyes next, the sun was already out to greet us, but I was in shock as I thought we would miss some of the events. I looked at my watch and it was only 5.15am.

Generator sound

I woke up in a shock in our first night in Port Vila as I heard a loud noise outside which made me can't go to sleep. After a while I realised it was not the sound of the generator but it was our neighbour who was snoring.

Heavy rain

While covering beach volleyball, I was caught up in heavy rain which lasted for more than one hour while photographer Atu Rasea was on the other side of the volleyball court. After about one hour he came to my rescue with an umbrella which he kerekere from someone.

Humid condition

It was extremely humid yesterday and carrying our heavy backpack made it more difficult for us in such weather. We stopped at one of the stalls to enjoy a refreshing coconut water.

The population of Port Vila is about 60,000 people and the streets were blocked as there was a heavy traffic jam.

Cikamatana shines

Weight-lifter Eileen Cikamatana was all smiles after she broke her own record which was set in Asian Games in September. Her previous record was 142 kilograms and she broke her own record by one kilograms in the clean and jerk.
