$100m term deposit portfolio

FOR a relative newcomer into the finance sector, Kontiki Finance Ltd appears to have struck the right chord with Fijians after the company's term deposit portfolio crossed the $100 million mark last month.

Speaking at the opening of their Lautoka service centre yesterday, Kontiki's head of products and distribution Phill Lacey said it was a sign that the Fijian people were confident in the strength of the finance firm.

"Our term deposits have proven to be very attractive and we have a directive from our board to pay the best interest rates in Fiji to customers who support us by trusting us to put their funds with us," he said.

"As a new business into Fiji, Fijians have naturally been very cautious but I am very pleased to say that last month we broke the $100m mark in our deposit portfolio.

"So Fijians are putting their savings with us and large institutions — almost every large institution in Fiji — has got funds in deposit with Kontiki."

Mr Lacey said the brand new Lautoka service centre located at the corner of Mana and Valetia streets was established for the convenience of people in the Western Division.

"The office is designed to assist our customers in the West reach us a bit easier.

"Up until now we have been based in Suva and whilst we have sales people on the road throughout the country, nearly 80 per cent of our customer base are civil servants and the rest are made up of customers buying cars or getting personal loans for other reasons."
