IQBAL Khan, the lawyer for the former secretary of the Independent Legal Services Commission, yesterday asked the court for time to respond to prosecution submissions on the disclosure of documents.

Afrana Rahiman Nisha appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with seven counts of falsification of documents and three counts of obtaining a financial advantage. The offences took place between 2012 and 2014.

It is alleged Ms Nisha dishonestly falsified six Bank of Baroda cheques amounting to $13,599.10 by forging signatures of the Solicitor-General of Fiji, Sharvada Sharma, and the payees and obtained a financial advantage of $13,599.10 from the Independent Legal Services Commission.

The matter has been adjourned to January 12.
