WEIGHT-LIFTER Apolonia Vaivai won three gold medals in the women's 75 kilograms category in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu yesterday.

Vaivai lifted a total of 215 kilograms while in the snatch she lifted 95kg and in the clean and jerk she lifted 120kg.

"I feel good and excited after what I have achieved for my country," she said.

"Every time I go on the stage I always tell myself that I have to do it for my country.

"I always keep my focus on my event and that is how I manage to win."

Vaivai has also qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in Australia.

"It is always hard, but I have to do it somehow."

Meanwhile, Hayley Whiting of New Zealand won a silver medal while Torea Frances Wooton won a bronze medal for Cook Islands.

The Pacific Mini Games continue today.
