RISING netball star Evia Thompson is inspired by the legacy of her elder brother and rugby league superstar Jarryd Hayne.

The 15-year-old has also set her eyes on representing the Fiji Pearls in future.

Evia is part of the Sharp Shooters netball team competing in the three-day International Netball Festival in Lautoka.

She says she is happy to be playing netball for the first time in Fiji.

The utility player said the benchmark set by Hayne had motivated here to work hard.

"I have been coming to Fiji on a few occasions with my family members, but this is the first time to play netball against Fijian players," said Evia.

"My brother usually motivates me to work hard and my future netball goal is to maybe represent Fiji.

"What he (Hayne) has done has made me work hard for netball and he really influences me.

"He always told me hard work beats talents and he always told me not to give up even if I am not chosen in the team."

She is playing centre and goal defence for her team at the netball festival.
