Estonia downs Fiji 2-0

NATIONAL football coach Christophe Gamel is disappointed with the goals Vodafone Fiji conceded in the 2-0 loss to Estonia in the international friendly match at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Gamel revealed the problems he had faced before the match with the players carrying injuries and he also hit out on the districts for not looking after the players' diet.

"I am disappointed with the goals which we have conceded, but I am happy with the type of play since Estonia is a professional team and they have played 80 international matches in the last two years and it is incredible," Gamel said after the match.

"We have together played about eight matches and I have to renew the teams with the players and each time I get the process done I am tired of it as I would like to have my same shape of players to progress together.

"Unfortunately some of the players go to the districts or even play in the overseas tournament and come back injured and there is no excuse for the game.

"There is a big energy lost each time I start the process and at times the players are not taken care of by the districts and they come overweight who are 10 kilograms and I had to drop them and they are not fit for this kind of teams as they would die (lack of fitness) after 30 minutes."

Fiji was under pressure in the first 20 minutes of the match with Estonia dominating ball possession and territory and they were rewarded when Estonia striker Henri Anier scored the first goal which Fiji goalkeeper Epeli Loaniceva could not stop t in the 13th minute.

Estonia scored their second goal through replacement Martin Miller in the 93rd minute.

Fiji after settling into the match also created a few of the chances with Saula Waqa missing the golden opportunity in the start of the second half only to be denied by the Estonia goalkeeper Marko Meertis.

Estonia coach Martin Reim said he was happy to come out with a win.

"I am happy with the win and the game was not perfect as there were too many balls lost and wrong passes and I think Fiji also surprised us as they were very well organised in the defence," he said.
