Fiji Bati requests for continued prayers

OUR Vodafone Fiji Bati team is now in Brisbane and they have one request to Fiji - keep on praying for them.

"The boys have definitely received all the messages from Fiji, near and abroad and we can't thank you enough, we just ask for your prayers and to keep supporting us.

"We thank you for the opportunity, that you have chosen us, this squad and the staff to carry the nation of Fiji forward and we are going to try and work hard and win that cup," captain Kevin Naiqama said.

The team left Wellington yesterday to prepare for their next job against the Australian Kangaroos on Friday at Brisbane Stadium.

"The whole week we were confident that we could get the job done and our focus has been defence the whole week. I am just proud of the boys, efforts fighting all the way to the last second and we have certainly made history this week, for the nation of Fiji. It's an historic win but in saying that job is only half done, we've got Australia to focus on next week," Naiqama said.

Coach Mick Potter described the team's victory as a standout in the RLWC.

"That's one of the best moments in my involvement with the players. I think the belief the Fijian players had was outstanding. They all played through, the game wasn't the prettiest, there were some opportunities created ... that has got to be a standout in the world cup."

"We have been working on our defence and it has been getting better and better since we played Australia in Fiji. We covered all the basics, players were outstanding with their defence stopping a lot of offloads. I think we did a good job there."
