Nadi to host 10s tournament

THE Nadi Denarau "friends of rugby" will kick off their monthly Fiji Masters 10s tournament on Saturday at Mount St Mary's School ground.

A total of eight teams have been confirmed for the competition that will continue until August next year.

Tournament official Epineri Susu said all participating teams would be paid $100 each by the sponsors and the winners to win $500.

He said the competition was to promote health and fitness at the same time allowed former national players to meet and socialise.

"After a successful Fiji masters tournament last month, the round robin challenge will miss December but will continue from January to August next year before the next masters tournament on September 2018," said Susu.

"The round robin is to encourage more masters teams to join in the program of health and fitness and a build-up to the tournament in September next year.

"The fees is free and the prizemoney is $500 for the winner and $200 for the runner-up and the first time in the history of tournaments in Fiji whereby all teams that compete in the round robin will be paid $100 each.

"It is just a way to boost masters rugby in the country and already teams are calling in to take part, the prizes can be welcoming but the main message is to promote health and fitness and former players reunion.

"It is going to be a day of fun and comradeship."

The participating teams are Airport, Sofitel, Hilton, Big Bula Denarau Lions, Army, Water Authority, Outrigger and Ravoravo Rabbitohs.
