THE Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team needs to work on defence for the 2017/2018 HSBC World Sevens Series, says former Fiji 15s coach Ilivasi Tabua.

Tabua was the technical adviser for the Solomon Islands team at the Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

"For me rugby has been my life and I am giving back to the rugby by empowering the young people, community and the nation," Tabua said.

"Fiji cannot take any team lightly and big teams are much prepared and ready to take on what is in front of them. Fiji has to be good in defence and good in attack. Defence is a challenge and retaining possession."

Tabua guided Fiji 15s to the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France, which had players such as Sireli Bobo, Semisi Naevo, Vilimoni Delasau and the late Seru Rabeni.

Tabua resides in Australia.

"I am doing development work with the Solomon Islands team on their 7s program," Tabua said.

"For Solomon Islands, it is the three-year plan and we are also targeting 2023 Pacific Games in Solomon Islands.

"I have been assigned to the team by the Australian program.

"I am trying to give Solomon Islands more exposure in rugby 7s since we don't have much exposure," the former Flying Fijian and Australia international said.
