Final in mind

THE Vodafone Fiji Bati team can reach the Rugby League World Cup final, says one of the best rugby league players on the planet.

And he is a Fijian.

Former National Football League (NFL), former Fiji rugby 7s rep, and former Kangaroos rep, Jarryd Hayne is confident that Fiji can reach the final.

He said this after the Fiji Bati team was farewelled in a church service in Suva yesterday.

But, he said, a lot of work was needed in the next few days before the team depart for Australia.

"We definitely need more time and more sessions as we got two more weeks to work together and get our combinations right," he said.

After the losses to the Kangaroos and the Kumuls over the weekend in the Rugby League Pacific Tri-Nations, the star fullback said the players needed to work hard.

"The world cup is just around the corner and we need to get our heads right and with the set of boys we have, we can make it through.

"We need to work extra harder and there are few areas that we need to improve on.

"It is very hard to come in and have three sessions and then get in to play , but I think we really did well. We need to get better.

"For me I need to improve on my sets and also my kicks strategy. The Kangaroos gave us a good game and we learned from our mistakes, so for the remaining weeks, all we have to do is sharpen our skills and get more focus on the target ahead of us."
