Banuve's 7s plan

FORMER Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro says he still isn't ready to make it to the Fiji Airways 7s squad despite camping with the boys for the past weeks.

The 'Bau Bullet' said at the moment he still needed to work on his skills.

"Probably midway next season or when the coach sees me fit, to be honest I am not ready just yet," he said.

"I think I'll stick with the squad but I'll be patient and just keep working which is something that I am good at. I just need to persevere and keep pushing myself in every training session.

"Playing with experienced players who have been playing 7s for a couple of years had been good especially coming from a different sport but I am learning very quickly and we have to since the boys are fighting for a spot to go to Dubai and South Africa 7s.

"We have buildup tournaments in Australia and the Silicon 7s in the USA so those are the spots that I want to claim."

He added he needs to put on more pressure on his speed.

"I think the speed that I showed in Germany wasn't the Banuve I expected, so my speed is definitely something that I need to work on.

"It will be different from the speed training session that I always do in athletics so this will be more like rugby kind of speed. I will add endurance just to cope with very high intensity that we have in the squad as we have high expectations in the team.

"We train like Olympic champions so the standard is very high."
